our weekend

What a lovely, relaxed weekend with friends! An impromptu lunch, a walk, tea, a fire.  The Popstar spent a couple of hours with the girls from her class, celebrating her birthday, then I went for a drive with Nicole and took my artwork to the gallery to get it ready for the exhibition next weekend.  Ahhhh the serenity.

fire! fire! said mrs mcguire

So the surname isn’t quite right, but pretty close!  This old book was passed on from my sister-in-law when her kids outgrew it, and the girls have just loved it.  I did a bit of a google search and couldn’t find the edition we have {1970}, so I have photographed some of it.  I really love the illustrations.  It’s written by Bill Martin, Jr and illustrated by Ted Schroeder.

I took the girls to see a fire engine the other day.  They had a great time – got to work the fire hose and climb in the truck.  They heard the sirens and saw the lights flash and had a fire safety talk from the fire fighters.

let’s go fly a kite

Just got back from a bonfire this evening.  Kids had fun flying some kites…no wind whatsoever, but they ran along and the kites flew behind them for a while.  Until they stopped and tried to turn around and run back, anyway.

We had a bonfire with some friends and a lot of kids.  And I had fun playing with my new camera, of course.

the pine forest

We went to the pines picnic area to celebrate a friend’s birthday.  It was the perfect time of year to be there…not too cold but cold enough for a fire.  The kids went wild, racing around the pine forest, picking up pine needles from the ground to throw on the fire or to play with in great big mounds.  They were covered in dirt from head to toe!

We had vegie burgers, salad, cake, and marshmallows to toast on the fire.  It was lovely to have a cup of tea {one of my favourites!} by the fire.  I think it’s officially a new tradition: visiting the pines in may.
