I’ve been working on a rug for a friend, and it’s almost finished! Woot woot! I’ve worked randomly with coloured squares, trying to make sure that the same colours/patterns don’t end up being adjacent. I had lots of blue and green {so I’ve used more of these two colours, using blue for a border of granny squares around the outside of the colours}. Colours used are pastel pink, blue, green, and a dark chocolate brown.
I’ve got one side of the blue border to go, and then I’ll do another simple border all the way around to neaten the edges. After that I’ll weave the ends in. The yarn is a gorgeous organic cotton that is so soft, and actually quite weighty.
The pattern is a simple granny square, and I’ve been joining the squares as I go {I just loathe having hundreds of squares in a pile that need joining together}. In retrospect, I’d do it slightly differently next time, as the corners didn’t join together as perfectly as I’d have liked them to…but for a first time effort it’s not so bad.
While I’ve been making scarves & hats {etc} for a long time, I’ve not really done granny squares very often. Now that I’ve started them I am finding it a bit hard to stop. I have quite a lot of yarn lying around, and I think I’m going to get busy using it to make blankets. The only thing is that the yarn is very different in size and texture. Which isn’t exactly a problem, but I’m not sure if that is the look I’m going for. So I’ll see how I go.
Will post photos when I’m finished!

Stained glass granny square is a fun way to use up scraps you have….. I made a huge one, I did the centre three rows in colour… Then I took the last round and I did it in black… You could also do brown, grey… All sorts of options
Very nice. I used to do these many years ago. Could you start one for me to put over my knees in my old age (bright colours please!).
You have such amazing color-sense! Love those colours together. What a lucky friend. Personally, I suck at making granny squares. Crochet stumps me for some reason. Would love to learn and get addicted. Great stash buster.
